Local Actions winner partners with Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps

Local Actions Winner, Ichor Selumun Paul leading the project “Journey to School”, successfully finalised a collaborative advocacy partnership with the Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps sector command head office, Jos Plateau State, to kick-start the project.

According to Ichor, “This partnership represents a significant step in our collective efforts to enhance road safety and ensure secure journeys for all students.”

The Journey to School Project will incorporate the Safe System Approach to advocate and create safer streets around school zones for students thus resulting in a reduction of road traffic injuries in the street areas mostly used by students.

Ichor continues that the Journey to School Project is ‘born out of a deep-seated concern for the safety of young students as they navigate the often perilous routes to and from their educational institutions.’

He adds that, in Nigeria, road safety remains a critical issue, with numerous students facing daily risks that can jeopardize their education and well-being.

The project aims to address these challenges head-on, creating safer school zones and fostering a secure environment for young students.By partnering with the Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corp, Ichor and his team are leveraging the Corps’ expertise, resources, and commitment as a leading authority in road safety.

The collaboration looks to enable the team and its young volunteers to advocate for the implementation of a 20-30 km/hr speed limit around school zones, conduct educational campaigns, and engage decision-makers to implement necessary infrastructure changes to protect our students.
